A recent study found that Millennial couples are talking about money more often than previous generations. I have seen this in my work with Millennial couples and am glad to see a study confirming this trend on a larger scale. I encourage couples to discuss money and potential money issues early and often.
I have also seen couples managing their finances in different ways that are more open and equal than previous generations. How financial tasks and responsibilities are divided does not seem to be as important to the couple's satisfaction as the couple agreeing on a plan and following it. Pre-engagement counseling can be a great place for couples to discuss their money stories and develop a plan for how they will handle their finances once they are married.
